Locksbeam Farm - Experience a Real Devon Working Organic Diary Farm
Richard and Tracey are the third generation of the martin family to farm in the area and hope one day that our family will one day follow in our footsteps. We are very passionate about farming and extremely proud of our pedigree herd which we like to show and which have won many awards. We look forward to all our guests visiting our farm so that they can enjoy and experience a real Devon working farm.
Locksbeam is home to our dairy herd of Ayrshire and Holstein milking cows , these are born here on the farm and we aim to give them a long and happy life.
Betwixt the ancient civil war town of Great Torrington and the village of Weare Gifford home of Tarka the otter.
All of our milking animals are pedigree and registered with the relevant breed society and we have two prefixes our Ayrshires are Golden and Locksbeam is the prefix for our Holsteins.
Our dairy cows spend as much time as possible outside eating grass but they are housed during the winter and fed home grown crops usually grass and arable silage.
We supply milk to omsco a farmers cooperative who in turn supply milk to the likes of Yeo valley for there popular yoghurts .
As a family during the summer we take some of our animals (Ayrshires) to local shows and our children compete in the young handler classes with their calves.
Children are welcome to visit the calves or watch milking during your stay but please wash your hands afterwards.
